Message from the Year 7 and 8 coordinator

Dear Parents and students,

I hope you had a fantastic and a restful holiday during the summer break. My name is Sebnem Golbasi and this is my seventh year at Sirius College as a Humanities teacher and fifth year as a coordinator. I worked at the Ibrahim Delal Campus for six years and 2019 is the first academic year that I started working in Eastmeadows campus.

This term, we have had many new students joining our Sirius College family, in both year levels. Welcome to all the new students and families. Joining a new school can sometimes be challenging for students and it is normal to feel nervous as they step into a new environment. Our college is very welcoming, but if you feel you need extra assistance in settling in to the school you can ask for help from our counselor and myself.

The Year 7 team started the term with a special orientation day program where students were engaged in various activities and information sessions during the day. The Year 7 team is more excited than ever, as they are getting ready to go to camp with their peers. I will update you on the students’ experiences in next issue.

Please note, lateness to school on a regular basis has a negative effect on a student’s learning. Especially, when they are missing the same subject regularly, this will create a knowledge gap which will reflect on their assessments. Lessons begin at 8:50am sharp every day. Lateness also creates disruptions to the class in which they participate and can interfere with others’ learning time. Please endeavor to assist your daughter to be on time so that they get the most out of their education.

Regards,

Sebnem Golbasi
